Ginkgo Biloba is a tree well known for its longevity and
a single tree may live as long as a 1000 years or more. The Ginkgo
Biloba Tree is also one of the oldest species of trees dating back to
the ice age.
Ginkgo Biloba is one of the best selling herbal products
in the world and is most often found in an extract form. Ginkgo Biloba
extract is made by plucking the leaves from the tree after which they
are dried to exact moisture level and then the extraction process
occurs.
The active ingredients in Ginkgo Biloba extract are
what's called Ginkgoflavoneglycos, Bilobalide and terpenelactones
including ginkgolides A, B and C.
Although it is relatively new in the united states,
ginkgo biloba is the most widely prescribed medication in Europe, often
for problems related to poor circulation. Every system in the body from
the brain to sexual function depends on a steady flow of adequate blood
throughout the body which supplies oxygen and nutrients to hungry
tissue cells.
Anyone wishing to avoid circulatory problems should take
ginkgo biloba.
Ginkgo biloba is reported to aid in enhancing
circulation to the brain (helping improve memory and concentration),
has been used to successfully treat male sexual problems caused by
inadequate blood flow to the penis, may also be helpful with therapy
for cancer. German researchers have also been studying ginkgo as a
treatment for atheroclerotic peripheral vascular disease. This disease
impairs walking and ginkgo has been shown to help blood flow to the
legs allowing people to walk further with less effort and pain. Ginkgo
Biloba is also given credit for increasing the bodes ability to produce
ATP (Adenosine Triphophate), the bodies universal energy molecule.
The recommended dosage is one to three 60 mg tablets or
capsules of standardized Ginkgo daily.
Most nutritionists and herbalists recommend using a
trusted brand and quality products. Check product levels for guaranteed
potency of a minimum 24% Ginkoflavonglycosides and 6% total
Terpenelactones.
Many of the warnings that I've read about Ginkgo Biloba
include information on consuming Ginkgo with other blood thinners and
prescription drugs. Since Ginkgo Biloba aids in increasing
blood flow it can be very dangerous or even deadly when taken with
other drugs designed to perform the same function. Please read the
warnings on any supplements that you take, even if they are all
natural. Even aspirin can have side effects.
